BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy

Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy

Member of Association of Independent Speech and Language Therapists

After qualifying as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2008 I worked for the NHS in Worcester. Here I specialised in working with children. I managed a varied caseload of preschool children, school age children and children with complex needs. I developed my specialist skills through accessing training and my own professional experiences.

In 2013 I completed a postgraduate course in Dysphagia. This qualification allows me to assess eating and drinking difficulties in children and provide advice and training to others.

In 2015 I pursued my interest in signing to become a Signalong Tutor. This enables me to provide training to parents, and other professionals. I can train and support others on an individual basis, provide small group workshops or train at a Foundation Level to enable others to achieve a qualification in Signalong.

In 2015 I set up in independent practice. I have provided local schools with an enhanced service and currently support individual children, funded by their parents.

Most recently I have been working with a Charity for people with PMLD. We have been working towards becoming a Total Communication Environment and using technology such as Eyegaze, Multisensory environments, whole body Interactive Systems and iPads, for communication and recreation.

I believe that:

  • Therapy and assessment should be fun!

  • Good communication skills are essential to help you reach your full potential in life.

  • Parents and those supporting children should be involved in therapy at all times.

  • Therapy programmes should be individualised to each child.
